The Longest Non-Stop Bike Ride was a big success. I managed to ride 725 km in 30 hours and 37 minutes, setting a PB at age 65. My cumulative 'Off-Bike' time was 56 minutes, which included replacing a flat tire and spending 20 minutes in a van with the heater blasting. It had gotten quite cold at night and I was in danger of becoming hypothermic. After 20 minutes I warmed up and stopped shaking, ready to continue on.
After 28 hours and a cold night, Ruth and Arvid discuss what he has left to 'give' while inhaling potato salad loaded with avocados. The end was approaching.
Arvid & Ruth's Grandchildren love to come and cheer, "Go Grandpa Go" and are always willing to help celebrate after.
Much more important than the actual success on the bike is the platform the bike event created. I was able to do 5 media interviews, sharing the Charles Mulli story and our story on Christian and mainstream media. We give God the Glory for opening doors to also share our faith in Jesus Christ. Nineteen years ago I prayed; "God, I am offering my ability to ride my bike for long distances to You. I will do my best and You do the rest". Shortly thereafter I became aware of who Charles Mulli was. Every year I am still blown away with what God does when we make ourselves available. We serve an awesome God. Here are just 2 of the examples of media articles.
Our four MCF folks who were supposed to join me here in Manitoba did not make it. They applied for their visas 3 months ago, but still do not have them. So we had to manage without them being here. We thank Charles Mulli for the video greeting, Ndondo for providing us with a video update, powerful testimonies, and songs from the Mission Choir. After my bike event on Aug 6-7, Paul Boge (author of 4 Mulli Books and Chair of MCF Canada) and I went on a Southern MB tour. We made 8 presentations, speaking to audiences ranging in size from 50-200.
Arvid is speaking to one of 5 Hutterite Colonies. We value their friendship, prayers and financial support.
180 people Joined us for a fundraising banquet on a beautiful summer evening at NKMB church. An anonymous donor had agreed to match all donations at the banquet up to $50,000. I am pleased to report that we raised $51,00 bringing the total for the banquet including the match to $101,000, paying for 202,000 meals that MCF distributes to impoverished community schools around the MCF Centers
Paul Boge & Arvid Loewen arriving at Newton Community Church, one of their 8 presentations in 5 days during their Mission Journey through Southern Manitoba.
Thank you to all those who came to hear MCF updates through videos, testimonies, recorded Mission Choir Songs, and our personal testimonies.
Thank you to all of you for your ongoing prayers for MCF and also for us. Greatly appreciated.
Thank you for the financial support. Donations are still coming in. With all the events built around The Longest Non-Stop Bike Ride, we expect to help Charles & Esther pay for over 700,000 meals.
In James 2, verses 14-17; we read.
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith, but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “ Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?. In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
The 25,000 children rescued by Mully Children's Family are thankful that MCF is doing a lot more than just offering warm wishes.
Blessings,
Arvid & Ruth
