This campus serves children and families in Turkana County, one of Kenya’s most drought-stricken and impoverished regions. Emergency relief is provided for over 3,000 families annually and free primary and secondary schooling for more than 850 children. Two boreholes supply clean water. Lodwar also runs feeding programs that provide hot meals, often the only meal of the day, for children, youth, and the elderly.
MCF has planted and distributed over 20 million trees in its project sites, the surrounding communities. MCF produces and supplies several thousand of tree seedlings to various regions in the country.
Medical Care
MCF is building a large hospital at Yatta and also a smaller prototype at Ndalani.
The current clinics offer free but limited healthcare services to all their children, staff and many community members.
Clean Water
Women and children travel a long distance in search of water. In an effort to ease the challenge, MCF seeks to ensure the provision of free clean water to surrounding communities and schools, for instance;
MCF Ndalani water project serves over 1500 households within Ndalani location.
MCF Lodwar borehole serves the entire Lokaparaparae village with over 300 households,
MCF Kipsongo borehole serves entire Kipsongo slum with over 1,800 households
MCF Vipingo borehole serves over 1,500 households in Rea Vipingo.
MCF Businesses for Sustainability
MCF manages their many greenhouses and crops to feed the children as well as sell the produce on the market. They also raise Tilapia as a source of protein for the children. The extra fish are sold at the market.
MCF chicken barns raise approximately 70,000 broilers (chickens) every 2 months. They are primarily sold to the open market and local businesses. A third chicken barn will soon be completed allowing for more broilers to be sold to business partners.
More from Quincy Bergman
(Global Outreach Director, The People’s Church, Toronto)
A boy who entered MCF as a small child repeatedly ran away — often stealing something of value to sell on the streets before disappearing. But every time he came back, he brought a friend or two. And every time he ran away again, the friends he brought would stay. They would receive basic necessities, finish school, often encounter Jesus in a meaningful way, and eventually become contributors to the ministry itself. These kids grew into young men and eventually became responsible for “rescuing” many children in their community because they knew there was a place for them to go.
Inspired by the Great Commission, MCF not only transforms individuals’ lives but entire communities, creating a legacy of lasting hope and transformation that reflects the heart of Christ’s love.
